Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community located in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" place. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that there is a separate island in the west of Montreal but in fact the West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel developed on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners were no longer able to dance with her. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Some former dancers switch to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher who led her in the right direction. One of her teachers suggested she audition for an annual school production. After trying out her options, she was eventually the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
